There is a strange kind of courage in the calm that comes after you've survived too many storms. It isn't the absence of feeling. It's the quiet that finally arrives when your soul decides it can no longer carry what was never meant to be carried alone.
She said I will not come back this evening. Partially it was because she craved his connection but because she felt he didn’t want it, she got protectively mad.
She gave up for that evening. She didn’t feel he wanted anything. It was a protective mechanism. She remembered his face the night before or his voice, it sounded indifferent. She decided not to do it anymore, to try to figure it out. They did this to each other…both
The final line quietly changes everything. It isn’t the ending that feels unfinished, but our willingness to hear what has already been said. A brief poem that lingers well beyond its last words. Thank you for sharing.

Perfectly said Belinda!
Amazing piece. I love how you build the tension with the back-and-forth, kind-of like waves.
Thank you so much! Yes it’s reminiscent of the tide. I live by the ocean. It’s one of my favorite places.
“Then you weren’t listening.”
Superb. Beautiful. Love it.
Thank you Dean.
This is amazing 👏
Thank you. Scribbled on my nurse note pad inbetween patients. I had to put it somewhere so I could focus on my job.

很美的诗。It feels full of breath and breathless all at once. The lines fall into one another like waves, never fully coming to rest. I love this style.
谢谢你。 Thank you so much!
Wonderfully written, Dorie.
It was a little unsettling in places but superbly done. I love the ending.
Thank you Gary. I agree some of my latest poetry has been unsettling. Making me look in darker places I don’t want to face.
This gave me chills. Beautiful! 🌟
Thank you for reading. I appreciate you very much. I think it gave me chills too. It wasn’t easy to sit with.
She gave up trying.
Yes she did. The numb that walks away.

So true! She’s protecting herself from more pain. Thank you for commenting and reading. I appreciate you very much.

It’s that sad reality. The opposite of love is not hate it’s indifference. Once numb you can walk away and let go.

Thank you for commenting. It does linger, maybe not in the throat but in the soul.
