Nice first chapter. It's like a romance in medias res, of sorts. The MC is there and then, boom, we are introduced to his heart's desire off the jump. Stakes are set nicely.
I think the dialogue and their first meeting was realistic and immersive.
“What would her voice sound like—melodic or soft? What was the scent that would surely cling to her, of jasmine or rain? And her hand… what would it feel like, nestled in his?”
Oh this is deliciously fluffy in the BEST academic-romance way, Dorie~ Zhao Ming basically went from ‘history professor’ to ‘history is irrelevant, she is my life’s purpose now’ in three seconds flat. I love how you wrote him short-circuiting over her voice, her scent, her department… honestly he’s one missed heartbeat away from reorganizing the entire library just so she has to talk to him again.
Oh I knew it — Zhao Ming is absolutely the type to lose all critical thinking the moment she appears. I’m fully prepared for him to reorganize half the campus in chapters six and seven just to impress her again.

He will do something similar in chapter six and seven

It’s my escape from academia so it has to be fluffy and light and full of hope. 🩷
It’s indeed fluffy with light and hope swirled in it~!
